A Message from the LV-UC Board
October 10, 2003
The Board of LV-UC wants to keep all of our volunteers and friends up to date on the happenings of our organization. While the focus of LV-UC will always be on our students and tutors, we would like you to know about the intiatives of your Board to support the important work of LV-UC.
So far in 2003, the board has been busy developing a strategic plan for the organization. We now have a documented plan to guide us toward our short and long term goals, which are as follows:
- Expand and enhance the overall program.
- Increase funding and ensure ongoing agency funding.
- Develop a governance structure for the organization that reflects the diversity of our student population.
- Meet all basic program commitments and increase the effectiveness of our program administration.
Not surprisingly, our biggest challenge at this point is funding. We have developed a funding plan and are actively seeking new financial resources. We intend to submit a number of applications to foundations that are willing to fund literacy initiatives, and we will begin to do some more of our own fundraising in the near future.
Other potential funding sources are the companies where our volunteers work. Many businesses provide contributions to non profit agencies for whom their employees volunteer. If your employer has a volunteer funding program, please contact either Elizabeth Gloeggler (Executive Director) or Bernadette Murphy Johnson (Funding Committee Chairperson, 908-380-4887). Also, if you have any other suggestions to help us raise funds, we would be delighted to hear from you!
We would also like to ask you to seriously consider becoming a member of the LV-UC organization. Membership in the organization will allow you to vote on important matters such as the election of officers and changes to the bylaws. We want to make sure we have the best possible governance structure in place, and invite you all to participate.
Thank you again for all of your efforts on behalf of our students.
