LITERACY VOLUNTEERS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Can you imagine not being able to read the back of a medicine bottle, fill out a job application or talk with your child's teacher?  In Union County, 26% of the adult population lives with these limitations every day.  Literacy Volunteers of Union County is a volunteer-driven, non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the literacy of adults and their families in our community. Through our network of over 200 volunteer tutors, Literacy Volunteers of Union County is enhancing the lives of more than 600 adult learners.

We help our students:

  • Improve their ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Learn to read to their children and assist them with their school work.
  • Work towards obtaining a secondary school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Increase their ability to obtain better jobs and to be more productive workers.
  • Achieve other literacy-related goals like obtaining a driver's license or becoming a U.S. citizen.
