Literacy Volunteers of Union County is a New Jersey non-profit corporation which is a member of ProLiteracy Worldwide. We are a volunteer-driven educational organization dedicated to increasing literacy for adults and their families.

. . .that 30 million adults in the United States don’t read well enough to understand a newspaper story written at the eighth grade level or fill out a job application?
. . .that here in New Jersey that number is close to 2 million?
. . .that in Union County 26% of the adult population can't read the back of a medicine bottle, fill out a job application or read a book to their child?
Literacy Volunteers of Union County is dedicated to wiping out illiteracy. We provide free tutoring for adults in the community who desperately want to learn how to read or learn to speak English as a Second Language.
If every person who knows how to read taught just one person, there would be no illiteracy. We can make sure that every adult who wants to learn how to read will be given that opportunity.
